2016 marks many milestones for the BMW brand: the automaker’s 100th birthday, the 50th anniversary of the BMW 2002 coupe, and now the 30th birthday of a standout BMW M Series model: the BMW M3. To celebrate the occasion, BMW will manufacture an anniversary run limited to 500 vehicles titled “30 Jahre M3," which translates to "30 Years M3.”
This anniversary edition will include the Competition Package standard, as well as an uprated 450 horsepower engine. The distinctive electronically controlled Adaptive M suspension will feature altered Comfort, Sport, and Sport+ modes to complement new springs, dampers, ad stabilizers. Subtle corresponding changes to the Active M differential on the rear axle and the Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) feature will be included as well.
A few visual cues will set this anniversary run apart from its standard BMW M3 brethren. First and foremost is the Macao Blue metallic paintjob, a special option for the very first generation of the BMW M3. The 30 Years M3 model will also feature an M exhaust with black chrome tailpipe trim, and exclusively designed M gills in the wings that feature the “30 Years M3” logo. Forged 20-inch M light-alloy wheels with 666 M star spoke design complete the eye-catching design.
Inside, the BMW 30 Years M3 boasts a decidedly sporty feel thanks to specific M sports seats and seatbelts with woven-in BMW M strips. “30 Years M3” is embroidered into the front headrests for an added reminder that passengers are riding in something special.
