Summer is in full force and there have been record highs across the country! What does this mean for your car? Not only is it working extra hard, but the heat can ruin batteries, and stress your cooling system and tires. But there is hope! Today your friends here at your favorite of the Daytona Beach car dealerships are here with some advice on how to care for your car in these hot summer months. Read on to learn more!

TIRES

High temperatures increase the stress on tires, so to maximize their life and safety, be sure to check the tire condition and inflation pressure monthly. You can find the recommended air pressure for your car in the owner's manual.  (Since heat causes tire pressure to rise, be sure to check the tires when they are cold). You should also have your tires rotated about every 6,000 miles.

COOLING SYSTEM

Your vehicle's cooling system has to work especially hard in these hot summer months. To make sure it's working effectively, the coolant and distilled water mixture for a vehicle's radiator should be 50:50. REMINDER: never open a hot radiator cap when checking the coolant level in the reservoir.

BATTERY

The heat can really stress your battery, so be sure to have its electrical system checked to make sure it is charging at the correct rate. Also be sure to keep the top of the battery clean, as dirt, which can become a conductor, will drain battery power. Additionally, if corrosion accumulates on battery terminals, it becomes an insulator and inhibits the current flow.
