Back at CES 2016 (Computer Electronics Show®), the year’s biggest showcase for new and upcoming technology, BMW debuted the BMW i Vision Future Interaction. Based off of the BMW i8 Concept Spyder, the BMW i Vision Future Interaction provided a glimpse of how the user interface in a futuristic autonomous vehicle might work. And it seems like the BMW brand's vision of the future struck a chord, as the concept car recently received the inaugural special prize for connectivity at the Auto Test Sieger 2016 awards ceremony.
BMW pulled out all the stops for the BMW i Vision Future Interaction. A high-resolution Head-Up Display projects the most important vehicle data right on to the windshield. At the same time, an instrument cluster displays other important information in a three-dimensional format. To interact with the BMW of the future requires just a wave of your hand, as the 21-inch panorama display is operated using gesture controls.
One of the best parts of the BMW i Vision Future Interaction is how it responds to the current activity of the vehicle. When drivers enter the car, the panorama display presents the content that can be viewed on smartphones or other devices using BMW Connected. The display also reacts to whether or not the car is moving. In the future, the display could provide distinct features for manual or autonomous driving, with incoming calls delivered in audio while you’re behind the wheel, and in video when the car takes over.
