This summer, BMW is “sharing the wealth” so to speak. The company had previously announced that the new iDrive system from the 2016 BMW 7 Series was making its way into the BMW 6 Series range, and the BMW x5 and BMW x6 models. But it seems there’s more good news: the BMW 1 Series, BMW 2 Series Coupe and Convertible, BMW 3 Series, and BMW 4 Series will be getting some of the iDrive features as well.

The most readily apparent advances will come in the form of a new, more clearly structured menu display and a higher screen resolution for the Control Display. These updates, together with the iDrive controller, will optimize control of the vehicle, infotainment, navigation, and communication functions. For drivers who plan to spec their car with the Professional navigation system, menu commands will move from various lists into a clearer, easier-to-use display of tile symbols. The Professional system will also be fitted with the Natural Language feature, allowing drivers to speak commands easier without being restricted to a limited set of pre-defined statements.

Wireless charging will be available for all of the upgraded vehicles, allowing you to inductively charge your devices inside the center console. What’s more, this new option includes a connection to the exterior antenna and two USB ports, along with a WLAN hotspot function that facilitates Internet connectivity for up to eight mobile devices.
