While drivers here at Fields BMW of Daytona are busy getting to know the 2017 BMW vehicle lineup, the automaker is already beginning to share information on some of the surprises they have up their sleeve for the 2018 vehicle lineup. The most recent bit of news to come out was the company’s announcement of the 2018 BMW M550i xDrive. This impressive vehicle will be the fastest BMW 5 Series automobile to date thanks to some borrowed tech from the BMW M Series. The car will be equipped with a BMW M Performance TwinPower Turbo technology engine capable of delivering 456 horsepower and 480 lb-ft of torque.
A Steptronic Sport 8-speed transmission will play an integral part in the driving dynamics of the 2018 BMW M550i xDrive, and can be operated using either the shift paddles on the steering wheel or the shifter in the center console. The xDrive all-wheel-drive system is also on hand to split drive power between all four wheels, changing the power distribution intelligently and with a rear-wheel bias to fit current driving conditions. Ride height is lowered 10 millimeters thanks to the Adaptive M Sport suspension.
On the outside, the M aerodynamic kit will accentuate the car’s sporty lines while optimizing airflow to guide air around and over the car. The kit also includes an M rear spoiler on the trunk lid. Additional exterior features include exterior mirror caps, as well as special M Performance design accents on the two front fender Air Breathers and the front air intake.
