Last month, the BMW brand debuted the BMW i Vision Dynamics concept car in Frankfurt, Germany at the IAA Cars 2017 show. The four-door Gran Coupe has a range of 373 miles, a top speed of more than 120 mph, and acceleration of 0-62 mph in just four seconds. The vehicle was created to showcase the design sensibility and future-seeking vision of BMW i.
Klaus Fröhlich, Member of the Board of Management at BMW AG, Development explains the idea behind this division: “BMW i is the innovation driver for the BMW Group. Here, visionary solutions and future-ready concepts become reality for the first time.” The design identity of BMW i can be summed up as follows: “I do more with less.” The division is poised to play a pivotal role in the future of the BMW brand. The automaker has resolved to offer drivers 25 models with an electrified drive system by the year 2025, with 12 of those models slated to be all-electric.
The challenge of electrification is one thing. But to push the capabilities of hybrid and electric vehicles while living up to the dynamism and elegance at the core of the BMW brand is another challenge entirely, one that the BMW i team has taken up with pride. Aerodynamic requirements are at the heart of every design decision, from the barely visible joints and flush integration of glass in the vehicle body, to the smoothly flowing, neatly aligned progression of the surfaces along the car’s flanks.
