The main hardware components of the M xDrive all-wheel-drive system are based on the BMW xDrive intelligent all-wheel-drive system and the Active M Differential technology. The system only engages the front wheels when the rear wheels can’t transmit any more traction to the road, and more traction is needed. M specific driving dynamics control software makes everything work seamlessly, orchestrating the various components to deliver unbeatable traction, agility, and directional stability at all times.
The chassis of the upcoming 2018 BMW M5 has also been fine-tuned to deliver driving dynamics that will blow you away and maximum directional stability. In true BMW fashion, this fine-tuning took place in part on the Nürburgring Nordschleife, the world’s toughest test track.
